GALLOWSTREET ︎
Our Dear Metropolis is the third album by the Amsterdam based brassband Gallowstreet. Our Dear Metropolis is an (mostly instrumental) ode to their home city and at the same time a critique of the direction the city seems to be heading in. Gallowstreet has taken the sounds of their city and transposed it to an array of original compositions that put a spotlight on the different facets of modern city-life. Facets that are not reserved for the Dutch capital alone; powered by a large array of brass and reed instruments this album provides the sonic fuel to traverse any modern cityscape. The diversity of the city is reflected in the variety of styles that Gallowstreet employs, from pulsating trance to solemn hip-hop grooves. Live, their music translates to an infectious live show that sparks pure joy and excitement in their audiences.
The music comes fitted in a beautiful sleeve with artwork made by Joost Swarte, a renowned artist who is well known for making intricate pieces on life in the big city for the New Yorker.
